Tokotoko has been providing Alternative Education services for several years now, firstly as Stepping Stones and now as Tokotoko Charitable Trust (name to be developed by taiohi).

Currently, we have 16 taiohi on our roll and we run our programme at 10 Domain Road Onerahi.

Our Kaupapa

  • Our program helps ensure our taiohi have all the knowledge and tools required to reach their goals.

  • Our focus is to provide a caring and supportive environment for taiohi to feel safe and develop at their own pace.

  • Our aim is to find out what each taiohi is passionate about and what they aspire to become. We then help them plot a pathway to navigate to that destination.

  • Out taiohi are at the front and center of their own journey as we show them different pathways and opportunities.

Our program is developed and built around the Maori Health model Te Whare Tapa Whā.

We believe that in order for our taiohi to reach their full potential a balance of all 4 dimensions will ultimately provide positive well-being.

Our program offers:

  • Literacy

  • Numeracy

  • Art and Design

  • Music

  • Technology

  • Health and Fitness

  • Pastoral Care

  • Education and Career Pathways

We use guest speakers from different walks of life to come in and share their journey, often these are people from similar backgrounds to our taiohi who have had similar experiences as a rangatahi.

We also engage with a number of local programmes and educational providers to help support our taiohi into further education and training or into employment.

We have, and are developing, relationships with Tupu Ake Forestry Programme, Northland Waste, G&H Training (Carpentry and Automotive) and the Regent Training Centre.
